Chicago Trip 2012 - Day 6

Up at 5am on the 6th day, and not feeling well.  In addition to that, it was a cold, overcast day.  I lay in bed and fiddled around on the iPad until 7am, when I went down to the lobby for a decaf coffee, then went back to the room.  This was our last day in Chicago.

I packed my bag for the trip home.  I wanted to do a little souvenir shopping before we left, so around 10:30 we walked to Accent Chicago - one of the shops under the Hancock Tower, where I bought a deck of playing cards and a t-shirt/hat combo.  It had started to rain, so we quickly made our way back to the hotel to check out.

On the way to the L station, we stopped at an Einstein Bros Bagels for lunch.  I had a tasty turkey (w/no tomatoes), baked chips and a water.  After that, we took the red line to Jackson, then transferred to the blue line and rode it to Clinton.  We walked from there to Union Station.

We arrived at Union Station at about 12:30pm.  Our train didn't depart until 1:45, so I walked across the street to the Starbucks on Adams street.  I bought a venti non-fat decaf vanilla latte, a "marshmallow dream bar" (rice krispie treat) for Todd, and a birthday cake pop.

After we finished our snacks, we went to the lounge reserved for passengers with sleeping cars.  It was packed with people, but everyone seemed to be in a good mood.  The good thing about having the lounge privilege was that the sleeping car passengers were escorted out the back door and allowed to board the train first.  A small prize, I know, but still...  I'll take what I can get.

We boarded the train and it departed on time at 1:45pm.

I felt progressively worse as the evening came on.  At 6:15 we went to dinner, where I had the same dinner as I did on the first night's train (it was that good), except I had a tiramisu and decaf coffee for dessert instead of sorbet.  Our dinner companions on this trip were a very nice retired couple from Vermillion, Ohio, who travel by train because he doesn't fly.

Passing through many small towns - can't help but wonder what each community is like

Back to the cabin after dinner, and then an early turn in for the night.  I was very oogy by this point and just wanted to go to bed.
