The Peanuts Movie
My new desktop wallpaper:
Check out the trailer and other photos/videos/posters/shop at http://www.peanutsmovie.com.
When I was in elementary school I would repeatedly, and I mean repeatedly, check out the hardcover Peanuts comic strip books from the school library. It's from those books that I learned what the words "quaff" and "sarcasm" meant. I also had my own books (I don't know how many times I read "It Was a Dark and Stormy Night". I had a Peanuts bedspread, puzzles, and one of these:

It's Not The Heat...
Well, we haven't floated away yet, but the humidity inside the house is stifling - I'm all clammy. Hope everyone else is doing ok.

Healthier Eating And A Treat
Lunch today: baked salmon, rice, corn, green beans.
Rice made with our new Zojirushi rice cooker - was able to set it in the morning and program it to be done at 12:30. The rice was perfect.
And for the treat: a Bodum coffee press. Simple to use, dishwasher safe, and the coffee is rich with a depth of flavor not found in an everyday coffeemaker.
Both were ordered and delivered yesterday within 2 hours at no extra cost using the new Amazon Now service. You can order for delivery within an hour for an $8 fee, but you can get an order within 2-3 hours for no charge. We ordered for 2-hour delivery, and it still arrived within an hour. Very nice.

Camarones Al Mojo De Ajo
Saturday's lunch at Anamia's: Shrimp sautéed in garlic and lime on a bed of vegetables and rice, preceded by a batch of fresh, made-at-the-table guacamole.

Sunday Lunch - Easter Edition
Barbecue baked chicken: chicken breasts marinated in a mixture of barbecue sauce, orange marmalade, salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne pepper and celery seed, then baked at 450 for 30 minutes.
Roasted new potatoes: Yukon gold new potatoes sliced in half, then quartered, then tossed with olive oil, salt, pepper, a little garlic powder, and rosemary. Cooked on the lowest rack at the same time as the chicken.
Sliced carrots: canned carrots heated on the stovetop with little salt and a tablespoon of orange marmalade.
Rounded out with hard-boiled eggs and garlic dill pickles.
Pretty easy and tasty, and not too much of a strain on my diet.

The Remains Part 2
Moist chocolate cake with drunken (champagne-soaked) berries. Apparently I only thought I was full before.
The Remains
Lunch at Reata in Fort Worth. I couldn't finish the last of my bison burger with onion, cheddar and barbecue sauce on a jalepeno cheddar bun. So good.
Three Dreams
I had three distinct, vivid dreams last night:
In the first I was with Sigourney Weaver and Samuel L. Jackson in a Jurassic Park fight for survival that took place in what used to be an abandoned mall onboard a massive colonization space ship. The last survivors were trying to live a normal life in the mall, thinking they were safe - then the raptors came...
The second dream had Todd and I shopping in an old-time, small town thrift/resale shop. The store had a lot of old second-hand country furniture, plates, dishes, jars and glasses, folksy decorative things, and craft items. Apparently for Christmas my brother and niece are getting wooden candle pillars with candles carved to look like birds.
The last dream turned dark again, and after drifting for a bit ended up being about a group of children stranded in a nature preserve and trying unsuccessfully to avoid a group of black bears. Instead they end up surrounded by lions and bears, and the results were gruesome. Luckily I woke up after the first mauling.
So there you have it. I can account for the origin of the thrift shop dream, as I heard a blurb on the radio as I was coming home from work yesterday - a portion of a story where a daughter was recounting that her frugal mother had a discount card at the thrift store. The other two dreams though - I have no clue. I'd like to see the movie of the first one (dinosaurs in space with an Alien-ish vibe and Sigourney Weaver and Samuel L. Jackson? Hell yeah), and forget the last one.

There Can Be Only One...Ok, Maybe Two
Let's talk pizza.
Fun fact: Hamburger/ground beef is my pie of choice - pepperoni has always been a runner-up.
Since I've never apparently stated it before in this blog (which I find hard to believe, but it's true), Gina's Pizza in Burleson, TX is hands-down the best pizza ever. It's a small, dimly-lit, used to be smoke-filled-and-maybe-still-is hole-in-the-wall pizza parlor and I say that with love in my heart. Perfect piping-hot or as cold leftovers the next day, I would eat it everyday if I could. It's my opinion, but then that's what counts in this forum.
The reason I espouse this now is because I don't make it to Burleson as often as I'd like, and when I do I rarely have a chance to have Gina's. So I make do with what I can find in these parts.
Recently I've found a close 2nd, which is what I wanted to share tonight: Classic Chicago Gourmet Pizza. We've gone there a couple of times now, most recently this past Sunday.
THE pizza to get is the The Great Chicago Fire, which is spicy sausage, sport peppers, garlic, cilantro and Mozzarella.
It definitely surpasses it's name and will bring tears to your eyes even if you ask them to halve the amount of peppers, which I've learned to do, but damn is it good. The combination of the hot, vinegary bite of the peppers, spicy sausage and most of all the cilantro - my god, the cilantro! - is perfection. Even though you may be shouting "fire down below!" later, it's definitely worth it. You know what, I'm going to change that to "bombs away!", as I think that was a better description for my aftermath. Still definitely worth it.
So, while it doesn't quite compare to Gina's Pizza, it's my local-ish favorite for now.

I Feel Boring, Oh So Boring
Not much to report right now. Just work and winter.
So, to celebrate the tedium, here's the first picture in my "Other Photos" folder in my photo library. This is where I stick things from other sources that catch my eye. I stick them there to rot, apparently, because I have no idea where this came from, or why I saved it at the time. Here it is:

Yet Another Earthquake
Driving home from work I heard a report on the radio that there had been another earthquake in our area earlier in the afternoon - a 3.5 magnitude-er.
We just now had another one - very strong, and this motion was different than the ones we had experienced before. Whereas the earlier quakes we felt shook the house suddenly up and down, this one was a rolling side to side motion which started strong and tapered off after about five seconds.
This makes 17 or 18 quakes since April. I'm losing count.

The Day After
Feeling fine this morning. I guess two glasses of champagne in a 2-hour period is not very hardcore, but that's how I roll on New Year's Eve.
