L.A. Trip - Day 5: Disneyland, P.M., Part 1

After lunch we headed over to Adventureland and the Enchanted Tiki Room.

Adventure awaits!
All the birds sing words and the flowers croon in the Tiki Tiki Tiki Tiki Tiki Room

The birds sang, the flowers crooned, and the Tiki gods became agitated; a good time was had by all.

A quick stop afterwards at the Tiki Juice Bar for a Dole pineapple whip, then a slow linger on a bench at the hub.  We ate our whips (so fresh and delicious), relaxed, watched the people, ducks, and the Disneyland marching band.

Not crowded at all
Here comes the horse-drawn trolley
The ducks kept trying to sneak up from behind us.  There was a popcorn cart across from where we sat, but they were sorely disappointed to learn we only had pineapple whips.

Next came the Jungle Cruise which was only a 15 minute wait.  We had a great skipper who reminded me a little bit of Margaret Cho.

The Jungle Cruise
A little foreboding...
...but they made it back, so it must be ok.
"Wave goodbye to the people on the dock...you may never see them again"
See you later alligator.  About 2 minutes later, in fact.
Look out behind you
This place is bananas

We made it back to the dock unscathed and headed next door to Indiana Jones Adventure.  It's a ride similar to (one of my favorites) Dinosaur at Animal Kingdom in Florida:  several people ride in a car as it zooms around on a wild ride through the attraction.  The short story here is that you're trying to escape from the temple of Mara after angering the god by looking it in the eyes.  Indy is there to aid your escape.  It was a 15 minute wait, but 5 minutes of that was spent just walking through the incredibly long (but empty) queue.

Enter the temple
Descend through the queue
The queue and interior are themed very well
Do not look into my eyes, mortal

At the boarding station

The ride was excellent.  It would be the only one we chose to do again later.  After Indy we spent 10 minutes waiting for Pirates of the Caribbean.

Tom Sawyer Island, where the Fantasmic show takes place...on weekends :(
Entering Pirates of the Caribbean is like walking through the front door of a New Orleans mansion...
...except that right inside the front door is the ride
People and boats heading to the loading platform
Floating past the Blue Bayou restaurant at the beginning of the ride.  We have reservations there later.

We knew in advance of our trip that the Haunted Mansion would be closed while they installed the seasonal Nightmare Before Christmas Halloween overlay, so it wasn't too much of a disappointment that we didn't get to ride it.  Oh well, we'll ride the train around the park instead.

This version is spookier
Jack Skellington plans to take over for Halloween
