L.A. Trip - Day 1: Hotel

Our first hotel of the trip was the W Hollywood, at the intersection of Hollywood & Vine.  We got a good deal on the "Fantastic" suite:  stay 2 nights and the 3 is free.

We arrived at the hotel around 2:45pm, not long before our 3 o'clock check-in time.  The front desk said our room was almost ready - it was cleaned, but there was a broken light and they were waiting on maintenance.  No problem we said (since we were slightly early), and left our bags and cell phone number while we took a short walk to kill time.

W stands for Hotel

We walked around the block just enough to get sweaty, then went back and waited in the lobby/lounge/"Living Room".  A waitress came by to take a drink order, then ignored us for the next half hour.

Not forced perspective - that is a giant lamp

Tired of waiting, at 3:45 we went back to the front desk and were told the room was ready.  We went upstairs where 10 minutes later a maintenance guy showed up about the lights.  There were about a dozen switches, sliders, and knobs, but they were all working except one lamp that wasn't plugged in.  He plugged it in and left.  He was very courteous, unlike the girl at the front desk who was just ok.

We marveled at the suite for a while then watched a little tv and took a nap.  I know, I'm old.

The Pantages Theatre and Capitol Records.  Oh and a giant Miley Cyrus poster.  Apparently the MTV VMAs are taking place downtown in 2 days.  Who knew?

All of the blinds are curtains were controlled from wall switches.  Naturally I had to make a movie:

What's this?  Looks like there's going to be a wedding.
Crashing the wedding from the air-conditioned comfort of the 4th floor.  It seemed strange to watch a stranger's wedding in my underwear, but it didn't shame me enough to put on pants.
At 7:15pm I was woken from my drowse by a knock on the door.  It was a member of the staff with a few amenities (presumably for our wait earlier):  a small bottle of Maker's Mark, a W flask which is covered in glitter and therefore sparkly but useless, and a glass filled with malted chocolates.  The chocolates were good; we haven't tried the Maker's Mark yet.

Soon

Since we were up we got dressed and walked around the block to Trader Joe's for some room snacks.  I picked up some cold pressed watermelon juice, which was just like drinking a fresh watermelon - delicious, a bag of herb popcorn, some Kona coffee cookies, and OMG the best:  rosemary thyme maple toff sunflower seeds.  Sounds weird I know, but everything works together and they are so good!
Find a Trader Joe's and buy these

Back at the hotel we snacked for dinner and watched TV before heading to bed at 10:30pm.  We thought we'd leave the blinds open but I was woken up at 2:00am by the light and street noise from all the partiers/drunks heading home, so I closed them for the rest of the night.

I liked the light fixture.  Todd took this great photo.
Goodnight Hollywood
