South Dakota Trip 2013 - Day 1

On the road at 9:20am, later than I thought, but no prob.  Panera Bread for breakfast.  Had a spinach-bacon quiche and water, and got a blueberry bagel to go.  I drove the first shift.

Stopped for lunch at McDonald's just south of Norman, OK at 12:20pm.  Had a quarter pounder with cheese, fries and a sprite.  There was a crazy guy sitting in the booth behind us who loudly kept telling this woman that he was being "persecuted".  He said he was being persecuted and he shouldn't be.  He said he may be a drug addict, but he's not a piece of trash, and people are persecuting him for being a piece of trash which he's not.  He is a drug addict and if he can just stop doing drugs he'd have that under control, but he's not trash.  As they got up to leave he told us to have a good day. We got back on the road with Todd driving, and came to Moore, OK at 1:00pm.

Only a 15 minute delay through Moore.  Destruction visible on both sides of the road, and mud covering everything else near the path of the tornado.  Saw a clean-up crew in orange (prisoners?) in a backyard scrubbing mud off a wood fence and pulling detritus out of a chain link fence.  All of the construction vehicles were parked in the movie theater parking lot, and a short way down the road, what looked from a distance to be a festival in a church parking lot turned out to be all of the insurance and disaster assistance trucks.

Hit the Oklahoma/Kansas border at 3:05.  Ate my blueberry bagel.  Wish I could remember my password for the mobile car app.  Not that I need it, but it would be nice to have in case I lock my keys in the car or something.  Can still send destinations to the car without it though, so that's ok.

Clouds, but sunny

Hit Nebraska at 6:30pm.  Made it to the Holiday Inn Express in York, NE at 7:30pm.  No issues.

Went to Walmart to get a travel toothbrush, then dinner at Applebee's attached to, actually, inside, the hotel.  Best option in "town".   Had a house salad with blue cheese dressing, split an appetizer of fried green beans and split an entree of orange chicken, which was really weird as it was served on rice pilaf, and had chow-mein noodles underneath (I guess to make it more Chinese-y).  At least there's a Starbucks nearby for in the morning.
